    CHAI's Finance team is based out of Boston and provides operational support to programmatic teams working in 35 countries around the world. Our programmatic teams work to improve access to quality health care and focus on a number of different issues and disease areas including, but not limited to HIV, vaccines, malaria, and maternal and newborn health.

    CHAI has an immediate opening for an Assistant Controller. This dynamic position will serve as a key member of CHAI’s Accounting teams and will support all accounting activities. He/she creates, implements, and enforces CHAI’s finance related policies and procedures, identifies and implements financial systems, and supports external financial audits.

    This role will report into the International Controller and will be based at CHAI's office in Boston.


    • Provide leadership, guidance and support to Accounting and Payroll teams;
    • Support accounting processes and ensure integrity of the general ledger;
    • Review, approve and post accounting transactions;
    • Develop, document and streamline business processes and policies to maintain and strengthen accounting internal controls;
    • Work with CFO and International Controller to drive improvements to CHAI’s accounting system infrastructure; focused on ongoing development, creating efficiencies, and system implementation in CHAI countries globally;
    • Coordinate and assist with the preparation of regulatory reporting, including annual and periodic program/donor audits;
    • Manage compliance with local, state and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings;
    • Carries out other responsibilities, as required.


    • BS in Accounting, CPA preferred, 3+ years’ experience in Big 4 auditing or relevant public accounting;
    • Minimum 7 years of professional experience in financial management, preferably in an international organization; experience with compliance regulations preferred;
    • Strong management skills;
    • Excellent planning and prioritization skills;
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work in multi-cultural teams and environments;
    • Demonstrable analytical skills to improve business performance;
    • Ability to think strategically and lead complex projects through completion;
    • Self-motivated and capable of working independently as well as with a team;
    • Strong team building skills, presentation skills and ability to problem solve is essential;
    • Proficiency in Unit4/Agresso/Business World or other ERP system optimization;
