    CHAI has been working in India since 2004 in close partnership with and under the guidance of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) at the Central and States’ levels on an array of high priority initiatives aimed at improving health outcomes. Currently CHAI works across projects to expand access to quality care and treatment for HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis-C, tuberculosis, cancer and immunisation. Additionally, CHAI is also supporting the government of Madhya Pradesh (MP) on large-scale programs to arrest childhood and maternal mortality due to malnutrition, anaemia, diarrhoea and pneumonia, and helping increase access to quality Family Planning services.


    About the project:

    In India, CHAI’s Sexual Reproductive Health program is working towards improving access to family planning, safe abortion and post abortion care services in the state of Madhya Pradesh. Key aspects of the project include supply chain management, capacity building and community engagement.


    Ensure robust financial management for the project:

    • Supervise operations of the finance functions in implementing financial transactions and expenditure against project budgets

    Ensure implementation on financial control procedures as per laid down set policies & procedures & ensuring statutory compliances, including:

    • Timely submission and processing of staff travel expense reports and other reimbursements
    • Verification of all vendor payments for general procurement, taxi & train travel, hotel, courier etc.
    • Timely submission & payment of invoices of consultants
    • Verification of all quick book entries 
    • Responsible for statutory and internal audit functions, cash management, treasury duties, and bank operations
    • Assist in various audit (s) 
    • Oversee preparation of budgets, forecasts and cash flows and act as the authority for routine fund clearances and approvals
    • Finalize budgets & prepare agreements/contracts in close coordination with the program team, country office & HQ
    • Coordinate with the annual fiscal planning for the project budget
    • Review compliance of actual expenditure in line with the donor's requirements
    • Interpret and analyse actual results against budget and feedback to the budget holders with advice and recommended actions if necessary 
    • Ensure strict compliance with applicable in-country laws and regulations, including taxation laws 
    • Ensure timely and accurate submission of project financial reports to relevant donors, and provide support and supervision to project-specific financial audits 

    • Prepare financial reports as per the donors/country office requirement
    • Ensure timely & accurate submission of partner financial reports and timely disbursement of funds 
    • Conduct quarterly administrative and financial reviews of project 

    Partner evaluation/ onsite review:

    • Visit partner's site to review their books of accounts to ensure the correctness of the financial reports submitted during the period & review that the funds are spent in accordance with the contracts/agreement
    • Build capacities of the partners and ongoing mentoring to strengthen their financial systems 

    Supervise the administrative functions to ensure timely support is provided in all the project areas, including but not limited to:

    • Timely procurement of goods & services
    • Petty cash management
    • Ensuring procurement, maintenance and smooth functioning of all assets to promote optimum utilization
    • Travel arrangements
    • Attendance & leave management
    • Provide training and mentorship to all administrative and financial staff members of project
    • Oversee development and monitor compliance to relevant donor guidelines 

    Grant management:

    • Support in preparation of RFP/EOI, ensure transparent and judicious system of partner selection, negotiations and finalization


    • Advanced accounting/finance qualification experience (CA/CWA/CS)
    • At least ten years’ experience in independently handling budgets, financial management and book keeping with thorough knowledge of accounting software
    • Prior experience in monitoring budgets, spending and accounting systems of partner organisations, preferably for a donor organisation
    • Prior experience in conducting training courses in financial management will be considered an advantage
    • Quality conscious and excellent attention to detail and accuracy
    • A strong sense of proactivity to ensure efficient financial management
    • Good time management skills and ability to prioritize
    • Open to change and to develop and drive process forward
    • Flexibility and ability to work in a team, as well as strong cooperation and people skills
    • Knowledge of Indian Tax Laws, Audit standards and FCRA regulations
    • Proficiency in applications of MS Excel and accounting software
    • Strong oral and written communication skills in English
