    Sexual Reproductive Team Overview

    The Department of Health (DOH) has made significant progress in increasing access to sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services in South Africa. However, gaps still exist, maternal and child mortality is still a significant contributor to overall mortality rates and wide variations persist in quality and access to comprehensive, integrated healthcare services for women and adolescents. To address these challenges, CHAI’s SRH Team is supporting the DoH at national and provincial levels to implement a broad range of activities aimed at significantly increasing access to SRH services for women and adolescents. 

     

    Position Overview

    CHAI seeks a highly entrepreneurial, energetic and self-motivated individual to support CHAI’s SRH Program with the goal to increase access to SRH services. The SRH Associate will join a diverse team to support the DoH to create evidence based strategic plans and ensure that these plans are translated into strong operational plans and are implemented effectively. The ideal candidate must be technically sound, be self-directed, be conversant with the health sector in South Africa, and be able to adapt to the differing needs of the programmes.

    Responsibilities

    • Support the development and refinement of the SRH program’s strategic initiatives, ensuring ongoing alignment with the DOH strategic goals and priorities
    • Translate objectives provided by the government, donors, and other partner organizations into clear activity plans, and provide guidance to SRH team on prioritization of initiatives
    • Support the SRH team in South Africa to meet established program objectives under DOH guidance, including, but not limited to: increasing SRH product access and security, increasing the utilization of data for strategic planning, and ensuring the spectrum of service delivery is strengthened in focal provinces, creating a model that can be scaled nationally
    • Compile, synthesize and analyze data to inform the development of assessments, training materials, reports and other program materials to ensure effective program execution
    • Liaise with the Health Systems team to ensure SRH health information data is routinely validated and can be effectively utilized by DOH for strategic planning, supported through the use of dashboards and tools
    • Support the program team to develop compelling presentations and reports
    • Identify strategic areas for expansion and guide proposal development needed for future program development
    • Establish collaborative relationships with the DOH, partner organizations and other relevant stakeholders
    • Ensure communication and alignment of activities across government and partner stakeholders efforts and across other CHAI programs in South Africa to ensure coordination and successful execution of the SRH program

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in Economics, Public Health, Business or a related field
    • A minimum of three years’ professional experience in public health in a private or public sector setting and with increasing levels of responsibility and experience
    • Strong analytical skills and advanced technical proficiency with MS Excel and PowerPoint
    • Previous work experience in economics and/or public sector financing, particularly in the health sector and in South Africa/Sub-Saharan Africa
    • Demonstrated strong analytical, organizational, leadership, and problem solving skills
    • Exceptional diplomatic and interpersonal skills, and ability to build strong professional relationships with a range of stakeholders in a challenging, multi-cultural environment
    • Ability to work independently and effectively in high-pressure, fast-paced environment and multitask whilst mentoring a team to perform consistently
    • Strong communication skills, including the ability to prepare compelling presentations that translate the results of team activities into meaningful policy recommendations
    • High levels of proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and internet applications
    • English language fluency, both written and verbal
