    In India since 2004, CHAI has worked on various initiatives with the National AIDS Control Organization (NACO) and has served over 350,000 people in the country, including children, mothers and caregivers. Through its vaccines program, CHAI is supporting Ministry of Health & Family Welfare to strengthen the immunization cold chain and supply chain systems in the country, in addition to carrying out focused strategic interventions in MP, UP & Bihar to improve availability and quality of vaccines.

     

    Vaccines Program

    Vaccination is widely acknowledged as one of the most cost-effective and focused disease interventions. In addition, the unprecedented wave of new vaccines expected over the next decade has the potential to dramatically reduce the global burden of disease.

     

    Vaccines need to be stored in specialized cold chain equipment such as ILRs (Ice Lined Refrigerators) which should maintain a temperature between 2-8 ° Celsius. These vaccines are stored in ILRs at various levels of the supply chain such as the State & Regional Vaccine Store, District Vaccine Store, Community Health Centres and Primary Health Centres. To ensure that vaccines are available today and in the future to every child in the state, it is imperative to have sufficient storage capacity today as well as projected capacity at each of these levels (i.e., sufficient number and volume of cold chain equipment).

     

    Although India has made significant progress in the last decade in improving vaccine coverage and introducing new vaccines, many challenges remain. CHAI operates a vaccines program in India to support the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare on its Universal Immunization program (UIP) in the states of Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. The program also provides catalytic support to the National Cold Chain & Vaccines Management Resource Centre (NIHFW) on national projects. Our focus is on supporting the UIP program in improving availability, efficacy of vaccines and efficiency of vaccines systems through strengthening Cold Chain Management and Vaccines Delivery & Logistics. This entails working on various work streams such as Cold Chain Expansion, Network Optimization; Equipment Maintenance and Management, Temperature Monitoring, Stock Management and Vaccine distribution processes.

     

    Background on the role

    CHAI’s MP team is looking for an Analyst- Data Management, Vaccines who would help drive decisions leveraging programmatic and operational insights gathered under various CHAI programs.  CHAI is seeking a highly qualified and motivated individual with strong analytical, quantitative skills and an aptitude of managing systems. Successful candidate will have excellent communications skills, be able to function independently, be self-motivated, have the ability to thrive in challenging environments, and have a strong commitment to excellence. CHAI imputes high value to qualities such as resourcefulness, responsibility, tenacity, energy, and strong work ethic.

    Responsibilities

    • Support the Program Manager and state leadership to identify and define CHAI's overall strategy within the program area, develop clear operational plans for execution, and continually identify opportunities for CHAI to add value and maximize impact
    • Provide technical expertise while working closely with internal teams on translating organizational direction into systems and processes
    • Help achieve operational excellence through analytics by providing periodic reports and dashboards and solutions to the team
    • Acquire data from public data sources and maintain datasets and support primary data collection from the field
    • Work closely with the program teams for providing effective data analysis against the set objectives and deviations
    • Participate in strategic and tactical planning to ensure proper data management and streamline information systems
    • Support the monitoring of technology and regulation changes related to information capture, processing, voice and data transmission, evaluate their impact on program activities and support the development and implementation of related internal policy and operational modifications
    • Train and educate on data collection tools, equipment, reports and dashboards
    • Support the programme management on strengthening immunization in the state
    • Monitor and support development and maintenance of project MIS and process improvements
    • Liaise with technology vendors for system upgrades and enhancement to achieve project goals effectively
    • Support the negotiations and direct the administration of contracts for the provision of information and technology service
    • Undertake any other duties as requested by the Program Manager or Country Director

    Qualifications

    • Fluency in English & Hindi
    • Bachelors in Economics, Business, Operations Research, Econometrics, Statistics, Big Data Analytics, or Other Quantitative Subjects
    • 2-4 years of experience in analytics and technology
    • Extremely strong data management/excel skills; strong modelling skills
    • Ability to multi-task, set priorities, and be effective under tight deadlines and in high-pressure situations
    • Excellent written and oral communications skills and a high degree of self-confidence
    • Willingness to travel to remote locations on short notice

     

    Preference

    • MBA or a Masters’ Degree in Other Quantitative Disciplines
    • Demonstrated success in coordinating various stakeholders/interests (public sector engagement would be highly relevant)
    • Work experience in a consulting, data, healthcare / pharma analytics, BFSI, insurance, online retail or a fast-paced results oriented organization
    • Proficiency on SQL, SPSS, MS Office etc.
    • Experience working with the public sector and cross-sectoral team
