In India, CHAI's Sexual and Reproductive Health program seeks to improve access to safe sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services, including a wide range of high-quality contraceptive choices and safe termination of pregnancy care.

Position Overview

The India Sexual and Reproductive Health program is looking for an Associate Director to spearhead its new initiatives in family planning and sexual reproductive health. Based in New Delhi, the Associate Director will lead our efforts to implement transformational interventions and advocate for key policy changes to further the goals of the FP/SRH program. This would involve working closely with and under the guidance of the Ministry of Health ("MoH") and collaborating with strategic partners across diverse technical themes. He/She will also work to develop CHAI's strategy for its future work in India in FP/SRH. The AD will be the primary owner of program budgets and work-plans for the sexual and reproductive health work.

  • Provide strategic and operational leadership for overall project management and implementation of the Family Planning and Sexual Reproductive Health program in collaboration with government officials and CHAI Country and Global leadership
  • Craft and execute a comprehensive work-plan with the FP/SRH team in line with Program objectives and commitments
  • Develop and maintain strong internal and external relations, including but not limited to government, donors, and public and private sector partners
  • Provide technical guidance in development, implementation and management of evidence-based programming consistent with organizational and international best practices, national health plans, and CHAI's strategic plans
  • Develop and/or review donor reports, including financial and other reports as required by donors and CHAI leadership
  • Ensure the effective use and coordination of donor resources and compliance with relevant donor standards
  • Allocate and manage internal resources efficiently, effectively and within budget
  • Identify strategic areas for expansion and guide strategic planning or proposal development needed for future program development
  • Design, pilot and evaluate key interventions to improve the FP/SRH systems in collaboration with the government and other relevant partners



  • Doctorate or Master's degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Public Policy, Public Health or related field; or university degree in any of these fields with an equivalent experience and advanced courses/training
  • At least 15-20 years of professional experience in the private sector, public health or development sector
  • Experience in sexual and reproductive health; technical knowledge is an advantage
  • Experience in the planning and execution of large scale projects, including budgeting and activities planning
  • Experience building and maintaining collaborative, senior-level relationships and working with multiple stakeholders including government bodies and large NGOs
  • Understanding of the Indian health system and its structure
  • Experience managing individuals and teams, including hiring, staff development and performance review, across multiple geographies
  • Ability to thrive in fast-paced, dynamic environments and to solve challenging problems without extensive structural or operational support
  • Ability to establish priorities, plan, coordinate and organize own work-plan and those of multi-disciplinary teams
  • Willingness to travel and to spend significant time in the field, particularly in rural areas
  • Proficiency with Excel and PowerPoint
  • Excellent written and oral English communication skills and Hindi fluency
