Overview

 Founded in 2002, by President William J. Clinton and Ira C. Magaziner, the Clinton Health Access Initiative, Inc. (CHAI) is a global health organization committed to saving lives, reducing the burden of disease and strengthening integrated health systems in the developing world.

 

The Manager, Institutional Donor Relations will be a member of the Institutional Donor Relations team, reporting to the Associate Director, Institutional Donor Relations and Program Review. The team is responsible for supporting CHAI efforts to pursue donor opportunities from foundations, corporations, governments and multilaterals. This process includes donor outreach and maintenance, developing highly detailed and strategic grant proposals, producing communications materials for donors and prospects, leading the creation of high quality project reports and partnering with the Clinton Foundation's leadership and management to ensure a coordinated approach to fundraising and external relations.  The team also aids CHAI to understand donor requirements and stipulations across the complete grant management cycle and be compliant at all times.

 

Supporting the proposal and reporting requirements of existing and prospective donors, in coordination with country teams and program teams, will be a key element of the role of the Manager, Institutional Donor Relations and s/he will be working in coordination with three others in a similar role.

 

In addition to being an exceptionally strong writer with excellent editing skills, this person will be a key partner and integral program member of their respective program portfolio. She/he should also be a good verbal communicator, organized, strategic, creative, and intelligent, and able to juggle multiple priorities and deadlines in a complex, fast-paced and entrepreneurial environment. 

Responsibilities

  • Write persuasive proposals to prospective and current funders clearly articulating CHAI's objectives; identify and synthesize donor objectives through a variety of sources and methods
  • Manage and coordinate, with level of hands on involvement varying, creation of concept notes, proposals and reports: work with team to ensure timely submissions by providing administrative support and clear project timelines
  • Assume responsibility for production of necessary proposal, concept note and report materials, including cover letters, narratives and financials
  • Partner with country and global teams to identify, engage and cultivate prospective donors, providing guidance, support and leading engagement as necessary
  • Work with executive team and program staff to develop content for proposals for all levels of donors
  • Provide a robust and reliable quality control mechanism for all documents submitted externally, ensuring consistency, coordination and uniformity across all CHAI submissions
  • Ensure their respective donor /grant portfolio communication documents are all up to date and complete in CHAI's donor/ grant management related databases and resource suites are complete and up to date
  • Support portfolio program teams to understand and comply with all donor specifications and requirements across the complete grant management cycle
  • Streamline donor coordination, communication and relationship management and sharing of good practice of their portfolio and within the IRD team

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 4 years proven proposal writing experience and track record in institutional fundraising, including proposal development
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Must be able to identify and synthesize donor objectives through a variety of sources/methods
  • Excellent organizational skills: ability to manage complex projects from creation to completion; plan and prioritize multiple projects, and coordinate teams to meet deadlines
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced, limited structured environment
  • Ability to thrive in an entrepreneurial environment and deliver measurable results
  • Adept interpersonal skills; capable of developing and maintaining client management relationships
  • Results driven, strong project management skills and people management experience
