Founded in 2002, by President William J. Clinton and Ira C. Magaziner, the Clinton Health Access Initiative, Inc. (“CHAI”) is a global health organization committed to saving lives, reducing the burden of disease and strengthening integrated health systems in the developing world.

About CHAI Lesotho:

The Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI – formerly the Clinton HIV/AIDS Initiative) has been working in Lesotho since 2004 to address some of the most urgent health care needs of the nation. CHAI’s work supports the rapid expansion of access to high quality, essential healthcare for all who need it by improving the organization of commodity markets and by enabling the effective delivery of health services and efficient management of health systems thereby optimizing the use of available resources to save more lives. CHAI has worked to strengthen the Lesotho health system by improving management of health services and availability of human resources for health, strengthening the supply and distribution system, improving laboratory services and planning for sustainable health financing.

Overview of Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) Services in Lesotho:

Lesotho faces an extremely high burden of HIV (25% adult prevalence) and many segments of the population qualify as high risk groups based on the World Health Organization (WHO) standard of 3% incidence rate. High risk groups in Lesotho have been identified as adolescent girls and young women, people engaged in sex work, men who have sex with men, people who inject drugs, migrant workers and their spouses, and incarcerated persons.

The Lesotho’s Ministry of Health (MOH) and its partners are committed to provision of PrEP services as part of the broader HIV prevention program.  To date, however, there has been limited provision of PrEP services at national level, with focus by most service providers on provision of PrEP to sero-discordant couples.  To contribute to on-going national initiatives, CHAI Lesotho is currently scoping a new PrEP program aimed to bring catalytic support for the national scale up of PrEP services, as well as to close the knowledge gap in PrEP programming locally, regionally and internationally.

Overview of the Position:

CHAI is therefore seeking a highly motivated individual with good analytical ability to support the scoping work for the PrEP program in Lesotho as well as to support the current national initiatives towards national scale up of PrEP services. The candidate will be required to work closely with the CHAI Lesotho program teams, and the MOH officials and partners. She/he must have good relationship building skills, excellent communication abilities, and a high degree of self-confidence. The candidate must also be able to function independently and flexibility, and must have a strong commitment to excellence.  We place great value on relevant personal qualities: resourcefulness, responsibility, tenacity, energy, and work ethic.
