CHAI was founded in 2002 in response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic, with the goal of dramatically reducing the price of life-saving drugs and increasing access to these medicines in the countries with the highest burden of the disease. Over the following two decades, CHAI has expanded its focus. Today, along with HIV, we work with our partners to prevent and treat infectious diseases such as COVID-19, malaria, tuberculosis, and hepatitis. Our work has also expanded into cancer, diabetes, hypertension, and other non-communicable diseases, and we work to accelerate the rollout of lifesaving vaccines, reduce maternal and child mortality, combat chronic malnutrition, and increase access to assistive technology. Role Overview

CHAI is seeking a highly motivated manager with strong public health experience and analytical skills to lead commodity access work in Africa to support, manage and expand our efforts to improve case management and supply chain management for malaria and NTDs. The individual will collaborate closely with CHAI’s malaria and NTD technical experts to provide technical assistance to CHAI’s African regional and country teams to improve malaria and NTD care provided through community health worker networks, public and private health systems.  The individual will set and manage priorities of the Africa-based commodity access team, build up CHAI’s expertise in malaria and NTD case management and supply chain and develop and maintain a global network of malaria and NTD stakeholders.

• Directly manage Africa-based commodity access regional leads.
• Provide hands-on surge support to CHAI’s country and global teams as needed.
• Closely collaborate with Global malaria’s and NTD technical advisors; country program managers, regional managers and their deputies, other global malaria and NTD tech leads, relevant other CHAI teams; regional and global stakeholders.
• Stay abreast of all relevant country, regional and global workstreams on malaria and NTD case management and supply chain management. Work with the commodity access team to provide strategic direction and operational support to African country teams.
• Lead new workstreams directly through recruitment, onboarding of new personnel and close management of startup phases.
• Lead recruitment and further development of the Africa commodity access team.
• Lead or support funding proposals when they arise; proactively search for opportunities.
• Develop and maintain up-to-date knowledge of all new malaria and NTD diagnostic and treatment commodities; global challenges that may impede malaria and NTD progress; and opportunities to improve our work and approach.
• Support donor reporting and strategic planning within the commodity access team and global malaria and NTD team.

• Experience in different roles (i.e., country and global) within CHAI’s malaria & NTD team
• A university degree plus 5+ years of working experience with increasing levels of responsibility and leadership
• Ability to travel up to 50% as needed, including at times 2 or even 3 weeks’ travel
• Fluent written/spoken English and French
• High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
• Experience working in an international context and/or entrepreneurial environment
• Exceptional analytical (qualitative and quantitative) and communication (written, oral, interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving) skills
• Ability to think strategically and anticipate future consequences and trends
• Ability to work well both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
• People-management skills: experience with directly line-managing employees to support professional development and ensure quality outputs from the team
• Ability to be effective, calm, and flexible in a fast-paced work environment, to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and to effectively prioritize
• Experience and willingness to work in unstable and ever-changing, developing settings
• Strong work ethic, integrity, credibility, and dedication to CHAI’s mission
