The Clinton Health Access Initiative, Inc. (CHAI) is a global health organization committed to our mission of saving lives and reducing the burden of disease in low-and middle-income countries. We work at the invitation of governments to support them and the private sector to create and sustain high-quality health systems.
CHAI was founded in 2002 in response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic with the goal of dramatically reducing the price of life-saving drugs and increasing access to these medicines in the countries with the highest burden of the disease. Over the following two decades, CHAI has expanded its focus. Today, along with HIV, we work in conjunction with our partners to prevent and treat infectious diseases such as COVID-19, malaria, tuberculosis, and hepatitis. Our work has also expanded into cancer, diabetes, hypertension, and other non-communicable diseases, and we work to accelerate the rollout of lifesaving vaccines, reduce maternal and child mortality, combat chronic malnutrition, and increase access to assistive technology. We are investing in horizontal approaches to strengthen health systems through programs in human resources for health, digital health, and health financing. With each new and innovative program, our strategy is grounded in maximizing sustainable impact at scale, ensuring that governments lead the solutions, that programs are designed to scale nationally, and learnings are shared globally.
At CHAI, our people are our greatest asset, and none of this work would be possible without their talent, time, dedication and passion for our mission and values. We are a highly diverse team of enthusiastic individuals across 40 countries with a broad range of skill sets and life experiences. CHAI is deeply grounded in the countries we work in, with the majority of our staff based in program countries. Learn more about our exciting work: http://www.clintonhealthaccess.org

Program & Position Overview:
Assistive technology (AT) is an umbrella term covering products and services that enhance functioning, such as mobility, hearing aids, and eyeglasses. An estimated 2.5 billion people worldwide need at least one form of AT. For the people that need it, AT is life-changing as it supports their independence and ability to live their full potential. However, despite the large need, one billion people are denied access to AT, particularly in low- and middle-income countries, where access can be as low as 3% of the need. AT provision has traditionally been perceived as a charitable activity, led by NGOs and faith-based organizations. As a result, AT provision is small-scale, erratic, and not sustainable. The growing need for AT is rapidly outpacing the current gains in access. A radical shift is needed from the status quo.
CHAI started the Global AT program in 2018 to transform access. We have worked with governments in 15+ countries to develop policies and strategies for increasing access to AT. As a co-founder of AT scale, the Global Partnership for AT, we have helped to establish a new donor vehicle that supports countries with the implementation of their strategic plans. And we have developed and published first-ever market reports to increase the visibility of product offerings and business opportunities in LMICs. In more recent years, our work is focused on strengthening AT provision to children. We are working with the LEGO Foundation to increase early access to AT for children aged 0-6 and are also expanding vision/hearing screening and provision of hearing aids and eyeglasses at schools. And we are supporting governments with the rapid scaling of reading glasses to support adults with near vision loss. Only in 2024, more than 130,000 people have received life-changing AT via CHAI supported programs. And we are aiming to reach between 1-2M people in 2025, while also transforming global and country ecosystems so affordable, quality and appropriate AT is more routinely available to those who need it the most.
As Director in the Global Assistive Technology team, you will lead our Global AT Program. You will be expected to provide strategic leadership to further unlock the impact of delivering life-changing AT to millions of people around the world. This position will report to the Vice President, Health Systems. The Director will play a pivotal role in solving one of the world’s largest gaps in global development. We are looking for a seasoned, highly motivated professional with outstanding strategic, relationship management, communication and leadership skills.
