CHAI was founded in 2002 in response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic, with the goal of dramatically reducing the price of life-saving drugs and increasing access to these medicines in the countries with the highest burden of the disease. Program Overview

The CHAI China country team works in close collaboration with both local and global partners, which may include organizations such as the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, to enhance access to high-quality, affordable health products in Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs). To realize this objective, CHAI actively partners with an extensive network of stakeholders, including both public sector partners and Chinese suppliers.

The CHAI China team is now seeking a candidate who will provide onsite consulting and project management support at CHAI’s partner’s office, such as the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation China Country Office. The candidate will work with the Health, Innovation and Partnership (HIP) team on Diagnostics projects.

• The partner is a leading philanthropic foundation fighting poverty, disease, and inequity around the world. It was founded on a simple premise – people everywhere, regardless of identity or circumstances, should have the chance to live healthy, productive lives.
• The HIP team of the partner focuses on optimizing the process of translating innovations into healthcare and related products (pharmaceuticals, vaccines, biologics, diagnostics, nutritional products, and vector control products, etc.) that can be accessible in LMICs. The hired candidate will assist the HIP team to manage relevant programs, portfolios and pipelines, as well as provide support for strategy review and partnership management.

Position Overview

The candidate will support the Diagnostics portfolio at our partners’ office, and will be managed and supported administratively by CHAI China. The candidate will work in close collaboration and consultation with the CHAI China team to utilize its technical and programmatic resources to execute his or her responsibilities.

The candidate will engage promising diagnostics products that have high potential in LMICs. Their primary responsibility will be to conduct innovation scouting, provide project management to R&D projects, and establish a diagnostic expert network to accelerate product development and market access. Such projects involve close collaboration with various internal and external partners including the partner’s Program Strategy Teams (PSTs), Diagnostic companies, academic research institutions, governmental and non-governmental funders, Product Development Partners (PDPs) and other foundation partners. All activities require the ability of effective innovation sourcing, product development project management, and internal and external partnership building.

We are seeking a highly-motivated and detail-oriented individual with deep IVD domain knowledge, outstanding analytical skills, problem-solving ability, communication skills and project management experience. The candidate must be able to function independently, be flexible, and have a strong commitment to excellence. The candidate’s main responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Conduct desktop analysis, on-site visits, technology assessment to source the high-potential innovations in diagnostics;

• Support the development of databases, analyses, and frameworks to assist in identifying and prioritizing diagnostic manufacturers and products;

• Prepare presentations, reports, and other analyses to inform the partner or foundation’s decision about promising products available on the market or in the pipeline;

• Undertake proven project management to maximize the performance and delivery effectiveness of each project;

• Project/grant management, including reviewing inquiries, grant proposals and reports, regular check in with grantee, and technical supports on problem-solving, etc.;

• Assist the partner or foundation’s HIP team to design, develop and implement project activities as required by the partnership framework, work plan and budget;

• Establish experts network to provide technical assistance to the partner or foundation’s diagnostics portfolio along product development stages (feasibility, development, clinical, regulatory, etc.);

• Organize meetings, workshops and seminars;

• Other responsibilities as needed.

• Bachelor’s degree in public health, medicine, laboratory science, biomedical engineering or related field
• 7+ years of work experience in the IVD industry preferably with experience in R&D and project management
• Fluent in both English and Mandarin Chinese (speaking, reading, and writing in a professional setting)
• Proficient in MS Excel, PowerPoint and Word
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
• Project/grant management and stakeholder relationship management experience in public and private sector settings
• Ability to work independently without extensive structural or operational support
• Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously in high-pressure situations and a fast-paced, multicultural environment
• Ability to achieve maximum efficiency and impact with limited human and financial resources
• Available for at least 20% of their time for travel.
