CHAI was founded in 2002 in response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic, with the goal of dramatically reducing the price of life-saving drugs and increasing access to these medicines in the countries with the highest burden of the disease. Over the following two decades, CHAI has expanded its focus. Today, along with HIV, we work in conjunction with our partners to prevent and treat infectious diseases such as COVID-19, malaria, tuberculosis, and hepatitis. Our work has also expanded into cancer, diabetes, hypertension, and other non-communicable diseases, and we work to accelerate the rollout of lifesaving vaccines, reduce maternal and child mortality, combat chronic malnutrition, and increase access to assistive technology. We are investing in horizontal approaches to strengthen health systems through programs in human resources for health, digital health, and health financing. Program Summary 

Unintended pregnancies and unsafe abortions drive high rates of preventable mortality and morbidity in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). CHAI aims to ensure that all individuals are empowered to access information, products and services that will meet their sexual and reproductive health needs. We aim to significantly reduce unmet need for modern contraception and the incidence of unsafe abortions in program countries within the next 5 years.  To accomplish our goals, we’re pursuing 3 strategic objectives:

• Scale up access to new and underutilized products to increase choice for women and better meet their needs and preferences.  

• Increase SRH commodity security through global and country supply chain strengthening and improved financing for SRH products.  

• Design and strengthen client-centered service delivery models that will reach key populations with SRH services. 

We pursue global and country-focused market shaping opportunities for SRH products to create an enabling environment for the introduction and scale up of quality-assured products and services in LMICs. At the global level, we are working to ensure that a diversified supplier base can meet demand for key products and ensure commodities are affordable and of high quality. We also coordinate donors and partners around global product strategies. At the country level, CHAI works with governments to steward SRH markets and address market imbalances contributing to unequal access to health commodities and services. We support governments to develop national SRH scale-up plans with clear targets; use data to coordinate partner resources against the plan and achieve targets; strengthen national forecasting and quantification; address supply chain bottlenecks; strengthen health worker capacity building; and strengthen performance management for the health system.  

As CHAI’s programs improve the performance and sustainability of SRH markets it is essential that we document the ways in which program approaches positively impact health outcomes and the health of the SRH market access ecosystem (e.g., through reduced commodity prices, stronger health system capabilities, scale-up of life-saving innovations, etc.). This will enable us to share learning with the ecosystem of partners and foster alignment around highest potential approaches, strategies, and investment priorities.  We anticipate that government-led groups assessing challenges related to access to quality, affordable commodities necessary for favorable health outcomes will benefit from both lessons and tools generated in other countries as well as new cross-cutting, evidence-based guidance and tools that synthesize emerging best practices into easy-to-use resources. As country governments act as stewards of their markets, we will strive to ensure that governments and local partners are able to access and participate in cross-country and global spaces for sharing and learning that meet local preferences and context requirements. 

We therefore strive to facilitate knowledge generation and sharing of program impact and approaches which will contribute towards the sustainable increase of SRH access within the context of a stronger and more equitable SRH market ecosystem. 

The Global SRH (GSRH) Team sits under CHAI’s Women and Newborn Health Cluster and supports the application of global learning and best practices, including around market stewardship and new and lesser-used product introduction and scale-up. The team provides thought-partnership and technical assistance to programs implemented by in-country teams who own our valued relationships with partner governments and who possess critical knowledge of local context and operating conditions.  Underlying our approach is our commitment to achieving sustainable, transformational change at scale by working in a way that strengthens health systems and government capabilities to improve SRH outcomes. 

Position Summary

In this role, you will lead the GSRH team’s efforts to capture and disseminate learning and evidence. You will have a direct execution role, synthesizing learning and evidence to create impactful knowledge products and strategic communications. You will also steward a culture of learning and evidence use by leading knowledge management processes and managing internal knowledge repositories. The position requires a strong blend of leadership, project management, and hands-on execution and analytical acumen to ensure effective development and dissemination of learnings and insights. Additionally, you will work closely with team members to facilitate knowledge exchange, optimize knowledge infrastructure, and support business development and organizational growth.

The Evidence and Learning Manager will report to the Associate Director and be part of the Technical Advisory sub-team within the Global SRH team.

Base Location is flexible to countries in which CHAI operates in Africa, subject to country leadership approval and work authorization.

• Evidence and Learning Synthesis: Through both direct execution and coordination/project management, work with subject matter experts to develop knowledge outputs, such as case studies, evidence reviews, and success stories. Create data-driven, dynamic communications for external platforms, including CHAI’s website, blog, and social media.
• PowerPoint Expertise: Quickly develop visually compelling, data-driven presentations that effectively communicate key program insights to stakeholders, including donors and policymakers.
• Knowledge Management & Dissemination: Lead the team’s work-plan for knowledge products, including priority case studies, toolkits, and newsletters, working collaborating with key contributors. Manage internal knowledge repositories, in collaboration with the operations sub-team, to ensure assets are stored, accessed, and optimized for use.
• Project Coordination & Leadership: Take on both leadership and execution responsibilities, coordinating across teams to drive projects forward and meet SMART goals for knowledge production and dissemination.
• Strategic Input & Collaboration: Provide strategic direction for business development, partnerships, and recruitment, aligning knowledge management with CHAI’s broader goals. Build trust-based relationships with stakeholders to ensure effective dissemination and learning.
• Learning & Knowledge Exchange Facilitation: Establish and facilitate internal communities of practice and learning summits collaboratively with workstream leads. Support the development of agendas, formats, and content for global meetings and knowledge exchange events. Promote a culture of knowledge sharing and continuous learning within the GSRH team and across CHAI teams.
• Knowledge Generation and Dissemination Planning: Lead the global SRH team in developing and implementing an annual knowledge dissemination plan. Set and track SMART goals for communication across targeted channels such as social media, conferences, and publications.
• Optimization of Knowledge Infrastructure: Manage and optimize internal knowledge repositories (e.g., Box, global intranet) and advise on external knowledge platforms and tools that align with CHAI’s Sexual Reproductive Maternal and Newborn Health (SRMNH) strategy.
• Engagement & External Dissemination: Manage editorial calendars and create materials for donor engagement. Build and engage internal and external communities through newsletters and digital content, aligned with relevant events.
• Organizational Development & Support: Contribute to business development by creating materials for donor engagement. Provide strategic direction for CHAI’s partnerships, support recruitment, and support team culture-building, including diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives.

Additional Requirements:

• Willingness to work across time zones and travel internationally approximately four times per year.
• Initially, this position does not have direct reports, though this may change as team needs evolve.

Educational Background

• Degree: Bachelor’s degree in public health, international development, communications, or a related field. A Master’s degree in public health (MPH) or a related field is preferred.
• Specialization: Coursework or certifications in knowledge management, technical writing, or project management are advantageous.

Professional Experience

• Sector Experience: 5–7 years of experience in public health, international development, or a related field.

• Technical Writing: Demonstrated ability to distill complex technical information into engaging and accessible outputs (e.g., case studies, briefs, newsletters, blogs, presentations, reports) for internal and external audiences.
• Knowledge Management: Proven experience in capturing, synthesizing, and sharing program learnings and best practices. Familiarity with methods like case studies, knowledge mapping, and lessons-learned documentation.
• Project Management: Track record of leading projects, coordinating teams, and meeting deadlines, ideally in knowledge capture, dissemination, or resource development initiatives.
• Conference Coordination: Experience organizing participation in international conferences, including preparing abstracts, presentations, and logistics.

• Technical Expertise in Global Health: Knowledge of Global Health Programs including deep understanding of health systems strengthening, challenges and solutions, and/or market access work in LMICs.
