Position Overview:
CHAI-Lesotho is seeking an experienced and self-motivated Associate, Lab Services to support the Ministry of Health to further strengthening COVID-19 testing systems including testing scale up, equitable access and linkages to care. Under the guidance and direction of the Program Manager, the Associate will implement the strategic and technical direction for the program, executing its development and assuming responsibility for high quality delivery. CHAI has over 15 years’ experience in providing support across more than 20 countries in Sub-Saharan Africa and Asia on Diagnostic testing implementation, diagnostic network optimization and systems strengthening. CHAI has a global team of technical experts for both the supply and demand sides of diagnostics.

 

This position will be based in Maseru, Lesotho.

Responsibilities

• Support ministry of Health on a broad range of activities, including but not limited to COVID-19 testing-related strategy and planning
• Provide technical assistance to laboratory systems strengthening and improvement of laboratory support systems as per workplan agreed with MoH
• Support National Laboratory Systems Strengthening to enhance COVID-19 molecular and Antigen Testing programs
• Support decentralization of COVID-19 testing
• Support adoption and uptake of current and novel diagnostic tools
• Work with CHAI global laboratory services team to assess market challenges, analyze market outlook, and to evaluate potential market shaping intervention
• Lead the implementation of monitoring and evaluation (M&E) systems to measure the impact of lab programs and assess progress against project goals
• Contribute to strategic areas for expansion or redirection to maximize health impact and lead proposal development as needed
• Provide analytical support particularly in areas of costing, scenario modelling, budgeting for laboratory interventions, analyzing technical challenges in the implementation of labs related interventions and any other quantification support as needed
• Build a strong relationship with key stakeholders in the Laboratory space, including with the Ministry of Health, subnational level laboratories and testing sites and health partners.
• Perform any other tasks assigned by the Program Manager or Country Director

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in relevant field like public health, policy, or science
• Lab and diagnostics-related experience, either in a programmatic or clinical setting
• Laboratory experience in either microbiology, molecular diagnostics, lateral flow assays (Rapid Diagnostic Testing)
• Experience working with government and ministries of health to achieve collaborative goals
• Goal-oriented and with high attention to detail
• Thinking strategically, handling ambiguity, and problem solving in a fast-paced, limited-structure and multicultural environment
• Ability to manage numerous work streams simultaneously in high-pressure situations
• Excellent analytical (qualitative and quantitative) skills, including high-level proficiency at Microsoft Excel
• Excellent communication (written and verbal) skills, including the ability to prepare and present compelling presentations, including high-level proficiency in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint
• Strong interpersonal skills; ability to build relationships with government and NGO representatives
• Strong openness to feedback given their willingness to improve
