The first case of corona virus disease 2019 (COVID-19) was reported to the World Health Organization (WHO) in December 2019 and in January 2020, the WHO declared the COVID-19 outbreak a public health emergency of international concern (PHEIC) and subsequently in March 2020 as a pandemic. To respond to COVID-19, South Africa’s National Department of Health (NDoH) set up an Incident Management Team (IMT) and partnered working nationally and provincially to coordinate the health response and provide stewardship and strategic guidance to ensure successful and sustained implementation.
CHAI is seeking a highly motivated individual with excellent analytical ability and strong communication skills to play a key role in the COVID-19 program in South Africa. The Provincial Associate will input to a large and growing CHAI team and will be expected to develop and manage strong relationships with the Provincial Department of Health and relevant country partners to support program implementation initiatives. The role will require the Provincial Associate to help design, monitor and drive implementation of evidence-based COVID-19 strategies. The ideal candidate must have strong quantitative and analytical skills, excellent communication and written skills, be self-directed, be able to adapt to the differing needs of the program and have a strong commitment to excellence.
This post will require attendance and meetings in locations such as the Department of Health. We would ask candidates to note this fact and request that any candidate who have concerns about covering these to raise them at the interview. The Provincial Associate will be based either in Gauteng/Eastern Cape/Kwa-Zulu Natal/North West, South Africa on a full time basis and report to CHAI South Africa’s Program Manager for COVID-19.
