CHAI in partnership with its India affiliate William J Clinton Foundation (WJCF), works in close partnership with and under the guidance of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) at the Central and States’ levels on an array of high priority initiatives aimed at improving health outcomes. Currently CHAI works across projects to expand access to quality care and treatment for HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis-C, tuberculosis, cancer and immunization.


Nutrition Initiative


WJCF’s work on addressing malnutrition/Anaemia amongst pregnant and lactating women, children and adolescents, and diarrhoea/pneumonia amongst children under 5, works both on the demand and supply sides and is anchored in the state of MP across all 51 districts of the State. The program focuses on i) strengthening health systems and supply chains at various levels of healthcare delivery (iii) improving uptake of Iron Folic Acid (IFA) and Supplementary Nutrition Program (SNP) and (iv) building capacity of frontline workers and their Supervisory Cadre. The program will reach 2,776,800 children 6-36 months of age, 2,745,600 adolescent girls and 1,147,520 pregnant and lactating women and expects to achieve a 10-percentage point reduction in anaemia and malnutrition prevalence.


The Program Officer, Nutrition will be responsible for the overall program operations. He/she will manage the operations through implementing partners and work in close coordination with other team members across programs in Bhopal in achieving program goals. He/she will work in close coordination with the Department of Women and Child Development and the National Health Mission, Madhya Pradesh. He/she will directly manage relationships with external stakeholder organisations/suppliers as per the project requirement.

  • Spearhead operational excellence through strong program management and ensuring implementation of programmatic strategies to achieve program objectives
  • Contribute in strategizing/revising the project strategy that aligns with national/ state health and nutrition policy and guidelines such as Poshan Mission, Anaemia Mukt Bharat, and others
  • Coordinate with state, district and regional health officials on program objectives
  • Develop Terms of Reference (ToR) for implementing partners for effective implementation of project interventions
  • Monitor the reporting discipline by partner staff to ensure submission of quality data, requisite financial expenses and utilization reports per schedule
  • Provide inputs for strengthening project recording/ reporting mechanism/ application based reporting
  • Track project progress regularly and input into the various progress reports for the purpose of internal consumption as well as government departments
  • Provide guidance, mentorship and oversight in nurturing and building a great program team
  • Analyse data for improvement of performance and programmatic decisions
  • Take up field visits to monitor quality of implementation, field teams' engagement with government front line functionaries, relationship with government stakeholders and other programmatic issues
  • Provide suggestions basis the field observations to continuously improvise program implementation and capacities of team members
  • Generate high level project progress reports and develop presentation for project achievements
  • Develop monitoring tools, concept notes, training modules and checklists
  • Take field coaching sessions and conduct review meetings with partner field force
  • Other responsibilities as needed


  • Post Graduate degree in health/nutrition or Masters in social Work and other related field will be an advantage
  • Minimum 6-10 years’ work experience in health/nutrition sector out of which 4-5 years in  supervisory/ managerial role
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical capability and project management skills; highly entrepreneurial and with strong self-motivation with ability to multi-task, set priorities, and be effective under tight deadlines and in high-pressure situations
  • Demonstrated success in coordinating various stakeholders/interests and developing strong relationships in order to successfully drive projects
  • Ability to work independently, flexibly and responsively, with a strong commitment to excellence
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills and a high degree of self-confidence
  • Fluency in English & Hindi
  • Willingness to travel extensively within state and India
  • Excellent team player as need to work closely with cross functional team 


  • Work experience in fast-paced, results oriented and reputed organization/organisations
  • Experience in working with the cross-functional team at a mid-management level
  • Experience in managing a team and local/partner NGOs
  • Experience in managing data analysis and validation
